I was born with only 25% kidney function and it was known that I would need a transplant around the age of 13. I was fortunate enough to have my mother as my first donor. That transplanted kidney was very successful and worked great for twelve and a half years. The second transplant did not come as easy nor did it go as smoothly as the first, but due to improved technology, research and the many hours attached to numerous machines, my kidney is now functioning great.
